Why Should I go with a Professional Photographer for my Senior Pictures?

Consider this….more people will see your senior picture(s) than even your wedding pictures!  Yes, strange but true.  And nothing is more distressful than handing out photos to friends and family that you really just don’t like.

For the past several years I have sadly heard these words more than once, “We wish we would have come to you first”.  The story surrounding those words is pretty much the same:  A friend or relative had a nice camera but the photos just didn’t look much better than an average snap shot.   Some folks came away with a disc full of hundreds of photos that they themselves had to cull through to find the best ones, and perhaps even have to edit themselves.  Most ended up with very few useable photos and all ended up with an unhappy senior.

Without getting long winded, here a just a few of the top reasons why investing in a professional photographer is a great choice for your senior pictures….

1.  Technical Skill – a professional photographer will know how to use that fancy camera in all situations.  A good camera does not make a beautiful portrait….a good photographer does!

2.  Light – is the most essential piece of the puzzle.  A  pro will know how to see, use and manipulate the light in any given situation.  Light molds your features and creates mood which results in photos make you say “wow”!  You should never end up with a bright photo and a dark shadowed subject.  You should also not end up with your senior pictures looking green or yellow due to color light casts or reflections

3. Posing – a professional photographer knows how to help you pose to make you look your best.  Most people are uncomfortable in front of a camera and your photographer should know how to help you relax and guide you into poses that are both natural and flattering.  Yes, there are essential things to know about how a camera, lens and posing work together to create great senior photos.

4.  Post Processing – otherwise known as editing.  This is where the photographer put the finishing touches on the photos.  From touching up blemishes to color balancing and sizing, each photo should receive a little TLC.  A professional photographer will spend the time to pick the very best of your photos from the originals and put the final touches on so that you don’t have to!
