Summer Senior Pictures – Dickinson Senior Photos

Sara came from the Reeder, ND area for her senior pictures here in little Hazen.  We have great locations here to pick from – my cool old alley,  the river, old buildings, and even our downtown sidewalk!  But I had my eye on the beautiful yellow canola fields that were in bright bloom on the evening that Sara made her trip here.  In fact, it seems I had been waiting for years for the right time of year, the right sunny evening, the right girl.  And here it was.  So, we drove out to the edge of the field and jumped out of the car and wham!  What the heck is that smell?  I had no idea that canola smells so awful!  How can such a beautiful field smell so much like decay?  Its terrible.  Sara was a great model though, and we got a few shots with that gorgeous stinking yellow in the background, and the sun streaming through her shiny blonde hair.  And then we drove away as quickly as we could.  LOL.   Yes, I will photograph in a canola field again, but I will know enough to warn my subjects before hand.

Summer photos are great, though, regardless if we end up in a smelly patch of beauty or not.  We start out session in the studio where it’s nice and cool, which is a great time to wear some fall or winter outfits to give your sessions some variety.  Then we can head out to enjoy the perfect evening light and cooler temperatures.

Hint to future seniors:  Make sure that when you schedule a summer senior session, that you are careful with you skin.  Of course, you don’t want to come with your session with a sun burn, but try to keep your tan lines even as well – they will show.
