One of the unexpected perks of becoming involved in pageant world is the sisterhood that develops between the contestants. The word “pageant” has so many negative stereotypes attached to it, including that the girls involved are catty and competitive. Yes, it is a competition, but I have watched girls develop deep, lasting and trusting friendships based on mutual respect! These young women are smart, and driven, possess a variety of talents and are involved in their communities. And they value and respect that in one another. I have seen if from the local level all the way through nationals at Miss America! And I’ve seen it with my own daughters. The Miss America Organization, in particular, is one of the fastest growing mentoring programs for young women in the nation. And here’s the perfect example. AimeeGrace and Ava are “sister” title holders. Ava is Miss Western Star and AimeeGrace is Miss Western Star’s Outstanding Teen. They didn’t know one another before, but Ava has quickly become a role model, friend, cheerleader and confidant to AimeeGrace. And AimeeGrace has become Ava’s biggest fan, supporter and cheerleader! In fact, Ava made a long trip to spend a day with AimeeGrace, take some pictures, prepare for the state pageant, and just spend some time as friends.
