Alex had some specific ideas he wanted to do for his senior pictures – definitely some training, some snow board, some dressed up and some with his car. Great! I understand that guys usually aren’t as interested in their senior pictures as the girls are, so it was nice to have some direction as to how Alex wanted his session to go. But I did have a little head start. The gym is just behind the studio and I see Alex heading in there regularly to train, so I knew it’s an important part of his life. I was already thinking about how I wanted those pictures to look and Alex was a great sport, going along with getting water dumped on him and everything. Using more dramatic lighting and really emphasizing the shadows and highlights really brought out the muscle definition and made the photos more dramatic. Really getting to do more with molding the light was fun for me.
We waited until sundown to work with the car. Alex has really built a business out of car buying and selling, and this is the one he had at that time. We grabbed another guy from the gym and put him to work as my lighting assistant and worked into the night and got some great looking car photos. Again, working with dramatic lighting techniques really set this portion of his senior pictures apart.
