Last week when Laura, Jacob and I were out doing engagement pictures, we pulled up to one of my favorite spots. It’s an unassuming little bench along a walking path on the side of the highway. Laura and I know each other from when I did her senior pictures and she hung out with my own kids, so she also knows that some spots look great in pictures but maybe not the eye. The story of the bench, the fall and a few great engagement pics!
After pulling up and getting out of the car (and Jacob looking around a little quizzically), I just had to tell them history of this little bench. It’s a spot I love, but it’s also the scene of one of my more embarrassing moments.
A few years ago, I was with Kelli and Clay doing their engagement pictures. It was nearing the end of winter and we were just about finished. It was a fun day, as I’ve also known Clay for a few years and he’s always talkative. He and Kelli are a great match, and we were having fun. They sat down on the bench and I backed up into the street. I stepped down from the curb and into a puddle that was disguising an ice slick underneath. Up went my feet and down went my rear…onto my hip and into the water! But I held my camera up – it didn’t get wet or damaged!
Clay to the rescue!
Ugh! I am too old to fall (not break my hip old, but still) but not young enough to hop right back up either. Both Kelli and Clay were so kind and concerned and Clay pulled me out of the puddle. I really wasn’t hurt at all, just a little bit of a wounded ego. Honestly, I’ve found the older I get the easier it is to shake off those embarrassing moments. So we moved on and finished up with some really cute pictures. Keep reading…it gets better….
But the story doesn’t end there…
Kelli and Clay’s wedding day was the following fall and it was gorgeous – I’m talking perfect fall weather and colors, super fun wedding party and a just an all around great day! The end of the night came, and as we were saying our good byes, Clay reaches out to give me a hug and say thanks….and then he says, ” And you didn’t even fall!” LOL. Oh gosh….I love when I make some shared memories with my couples, but it would be better if I could do it without falling!
Still love that bench….I’m just a little more careful where I step!
